Tell us a little bit about the history of 4C Health:
4C Health began as Four County Comprehensive Mental Health Center in 1975. We have served as the designated Community Mental Health Center for Cass, Miami, Fulton, and Pulaski counties since that time. In the early 1980s, inpatient psychiatric services were added to the continuum of behavioral health services the center offered. Starting in 2015, we began a growth journey to meet needs of additional surrounding rural communities. This growth included providing services to Howard, Tipton, White, Carroll, Clinton, Marshall, Wabash, Grant counties and beyond. This geographic growth along with expansion in our behavioral health and crisis care service offerings, and addition of integrated primary care efforts led to a rebranding effort in 2022 to 4C Health. Our new name reflects appreciation for our history that is rooted in “4” North Central Indiana counties, aligns with our focus on whole person health, and exemplifies our values, our “4Cs”. Care that is Compassionate, Collaborative, and Competent.
4C Health is an early adopter of the 32-hour work week. How has that affected company culture for your employees?
Moving to the 32-hour work week has allowed our staff to have more time with family, for themselves and to focus on their own needs and goals. This 4C initiative, "Restore with Four", has an 89% success rate of employees being happy/love the 4-day work week and do not want to return to the 5-day work week, per our recent staff survey. Taking care of others can take be taxing on individuals. 4C wants to ensure that staff have time to take care of themselves so that they can take care of others.
Can you detail some of the new services 4C Health is offering? What other services do you provide to Fulton County residents?
4C Health offers the full continuum of mental health services, from inpatient psychiatric care, group homes, community and school-based services, outpatient therapy, psychiatric services and addiction services. 4C Health has an outpatient clinic located 401 E 8th St, Rochester, IN. We also offer Community-based services, Adult Intensive Services, Peer Support services and have staff in all school buildings within Fulton Co. 4C has also invested greatly in the past 4 years in crisis services across our areas. This includes our Mobile Crisis Teams, which also operate in Fulton Co. This is a service that allows our staff to respond to any substance use or mental health crisis directly in the community. This service allows for our teams to stabilize those in crisis, the goal being to stay within the community. 4C also offers Crisis Stabilization. Crisis Stabilization is for individuals that feel they need more support than what can be offered in the community. Also, we have started primary care services and will soon be offering these services at our Rochester location.
We hear you are celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, do you have any plans?
We recently had a kickoff to our "On the Road to 50" in May. There was a ribbon cutting event at our new Peru Comprehensive Care Center. This is our newly renovated space featuring our outpatient services, as well as our brand-new inpatient unit. This is a 15-bed unit that currently serves our adult population but, in the fall, will begin to also serve our adolescent populations. This center also includes our Crisis Stabilization Units, that also will serve the adult and adolescents populations. Moving forward we are continuing to celebrate milestones and successes of 4C Health, including our annual celebration coming up in August 1st. We will also be planting trees at several locations, including our Rochester office, honoring our 50 years of serving our communities.
In what ways do you invest in the local community?
4C Health invests in every level of mental health and substance use needs for our community, for all ages and populations. We have embedded staff that work within our local hospital, all schools, probations departments, the local jail and Department of Child Services. We continue to strive for high community involvement and engagement.
